Eric and I went to watch his daughter, Lorene, participate in a Pentathlon. Fifth graders from 10 schools were divided into five teams: Sparta, Athens, Thebes, Corinth, and Delphi. Lorene was on the Corinth team. In classical times, Corinth was an ancient city that rivaled Athens and Thebes in wealth.
Teams competed against each other within their team. In other words, the Corinth team Lorene was on competed against other Corinth teams. They didn't compete against Spartans, Athenians, Thebans, or Delphians. It was interesting to see how games were played by the Greeks many years ago. I also liked seeing the boys and girls compete together, although it wasn't as fair for the girls to have to compete against the boys.
Lorene did exceedingly well. Many times she was the only girl to stand in the winners area.
