Eric and I visited the Maker Faire. It was the third time we've been to the faire, having been going to the faire since its inception. Over these past three years, the faire has grown from a fun place for engineers to show off their latest projects to a low-budget amusement park for families to bring their kids to see and play with the latest and strangest gadgets imaginable. In the words of the Maker Faire team, "Maker Faire is a two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It's for creative, resourceful people of all ages and backgrounds who like to tinker and love to make things."
This year, there were the usual electronics gadgets, machines that make lightning, bicycles made from recycled parts, children craft areas, human mouse trap game, and Maker store. And then there were new additions such as giant statues, a hip-hop band, and chocolate tasting booth.
There must have been more than twice as many activities thise year and twice as many people. The traffic was so bad going there that it would have been faster walking the last couple of miles than driving.
